A multi – faceted personality

Persevering, far sighted, dedicated Karma Yogi reverend Shri Braham Swarup Ji is the disciple of Late Shri Devendra Swarup Ji Maharaj. His guru held him in high esteem and considered him a befitting person to take over the management and the responsibility of running the various institutions setup by Late Shri Devendra Swarup Ji Maharaj.

Shri Braham Swarup Ji is the embodiment of affection and compassion. In him one can find a true paragon of virtue. He has been efficiently and successfully managing all the institutions in accordance with the high ideals of his Guru Shri Devendra Swarup Ji Maharaj.

This noble personality was born on 25 March 1956 in a Brahmin family. Since his childhood Shri Braham Swarup Ji has been a brilliant person. He has been inclined towards social service, nation’s service and religion since he was a small boy. As a student he was a active social worker and involved in students politics he helped the students by solving the numerous problems in connection with the college. Shri Braham Swarup Ji post graduated in economics.

He believes in the moto “I am everybodies and all are mine” and has completely dedicated his life to the service of humanity and nation. He is known for his acumen as political leader, able administrator, a thinker with far sightedness a brilliant orator and great social worker. There is affection and respect for all in his generous heart. He knows now distinction between the rich and poor, cast creed, and religion. For him all people are the creations of one god. As a political worker he had always visualized the creation of separate state of Uttarakhand and he worked untiringly towards this goal. His contribution for the development of Haridwar and the state of Uttarakhand is too great.

His greatest contribution has been raising vociferously from different platforms the demand for establishing Sanskrit academy and Sanskrit University in Uttarakhand. Ultimately Shri N. D. Tiwari, the, then Chief Minister of the State were so persuaded by the Shri Braham Swarup Ji sincerity that he established a University and the Academy. Today these institutions in Haridwar are working for preservation and propagation of Sanskrit language. The holy land of Haridwar is blessed with the existence of these institutions and the credit must go to Shri Braham Swarup Ji.

In the field of education Shri Braham Swarup Ji is making an invaluable contribution. He has established Shri Devendra Swarup Bhramchari international public school in Rishikesh. The school is providing modern public school education to 2000 students. The school has state-of-the-art infrastructure and is providing employment to hundreds of youth in various capacities.

In addition to this Shri Jai Ram Ashram, Rishikesh, under the able stewardship of Shri Braham Swarup Ji is managing Sanskrit college which is providing free education to 300 students, with free board and lodging facilities. The Ashram is also running a Yoga centre where 100 students are undergoing training in the science of Yoga.

Shri Jai Ram Ashram also organizes religious and cultural programmes frequently where students from under privileged backgrounds are given scholarships and the handicapped children received aid. The Ashram also organizes medical camps and eye camps in Haridwar and Rishikesh. All the Ashrams managed by Shri Braham Swarup Ji are committed to the service of humanity.

Shri Brahmchari Ji has been interested in politics since his student days. He believes in politics being a powerful means of social service. He has been very popular due to his political acumen. As a Congress Party worker Shri Brahmchari Ji has worked at district and at national level on various challenging posts. He has cordial relationship with the senior politicians of the country. He has never allowed any personal ambition to get in the way of this public service. His saintly character has lent an ideal to the politics. His political growth and popularity is very impressive. Shri Brahmchari Ji’s personality and his inspiring words have revived the mortified spirits of many a men. He has guided many people on to the path of duty and righteousness. His preaching’s have changed lives of many people. The motivational force in his words can be aptly compare to lord Gautam Budha’s words to Aunglimal which changed her life for ever and directed her steps towards the path of virtue.

Achievement

	On 11 August 2002, the, then Governor of Uttarakhand Sardar Surjit Singh Barnala Ji conferred “Uttaranchal Ratna” on Shri Braham Swarup Ji for his great contribution towards the progress of the state and social service.
	In December 2002 Shri Braham Swarup Ji was appointed as a vice president of Uttaranchal Sanskrit Academy. Under his able leadership a spacious and state-of-the-art auditorium was added to this institution. This auditorium can compete with any world class auditorium in any institution.
	Under his guidance and encouragement Sanskrit academy has started research on manuscripts in Sanskrit. This is an important step to revive the almost extinct Sanskrit language.
	On 8 July 2005 Shri Braham Swarup Ji was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of Uttaranchal Sanskrit University.
	He was instrumental in connecting on the holy land of Haridwar, religion with industries through the establishment of SIDCUL. It was on his insistent demand that the state govt. set up the SIDCUL.
	In Haridwar he worked towards ameliorating the condition of farmers and industrial labours by demanding better prices for agricultural goods and better wages for industrial labourers.

The honourable Shri Braham Swarup Ji has a unique way functioning. He has a great initiative and does not believe in dilly-dallying. He believes in the philosophy of Sant Kabir Das who said that what has to be done tomorrow must be done today and what needs to be done today must be done now because time and tide wait for none. His enthusiasm for hard work and completing the given task within the stipulated time period has won him many admires. Shri Braham Swarup Ji has never been discouraged by obstructions and has never let himself be bogged down by adverse circumstances. His work culture can be best described in the following Sanskrit Shalok of Maharaj Bhatrhari.

प्रारभ्यते न खलु विघ्नभयेन नीचै:,
प्रारभ्य विघ्नविहता विरमन्ति मध्या:।
विघ्नैर्मुहुर्मुहुरपि प्रतिहन्यमाने,
प्रारभ्य चोत्तमजना: न परित्यजन्ति।।

Reverend Shri Braham Swarup Ji gives supreme place to his guru. According to him what ever he has achieved whether in his social life or in his spiritual aspects it has been due to the blessings of his guru. Just as Swami Ram Krishna Paramhans saw and understood the innate capability, in depth knowledge and excessive zeal in Acharaya Narendra and thought him to be an appropriate person to protect the Indian culture and gave him the name of Swami Vivekanand, in the same way Shri Braham Swarup Ji’s guru saw in him enthusiasm for work, an attractive personality, eloquence and spiritual leanings and chose him to shoulder the responsibilities of serving culture, protecting the traditions and managing the tradition of the Ashrams. According to him “one cannot attain salvation without guru”. This is his moving mantra. He also upholds the philosophy of Sant Kabir about the guru that if the guru is angry god can never be reached. The love he has for religion, for Indian culture has been passed onto him by his guru. Just like his guru Shri Devendra Swarup Ji Maharaj he devoted himself to the service of Indian culture, cows and to the service of visitors to various Ashrams. He has continued his guru’s mission to serve the humanity and the country.

Shri Braham Swarup Ji is a man of simple and generous nature. His whole life has been spent in serving others. His great personality and solemn appearance may fill people with holy owe but his nature has proved him to be an approachable human being. He is moved by the sufferings of humanity. If ever he becomes angry and uses harsh words, his intention is not hurt others but to motivate them to rise from their lethargy. The following lines define appropriately the personality of Shri Braham Swarup Ji :

नारिकेल समाकारा दृष्यन्ते हि साधव:।
अन्ये बदरिकाकारा बहिरेव मनोहरा:।।

Shri Braham Swarup Ji possesses a keen intelligence and a character which is crystal clear like the quartz stone. His outward appearance is as pure as is his mind. He never acts under impulse and like Bhishma from Mahabharata he remains resolute once he has decided on some course of action. Nothing can dissuade him from the path of virtue and determination. He is as constant as northern star. Some Sanskrit poet has written the following lines which seem to fit the character of Shri Braham Swarup Ji :

चन्द्र टरै सूरज टरै, टरै जगत्‌ व्यवहार।
पै दृढ़ श्री हरिश्चन्द्र का टरै न सत्यविचार।।

Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, and Saraswati, the Goddess of enlightenment have both being kind to Shri Braham Swarup Ji. Such a luck where prosperity and knowledge co-exist is rarely seen. Shri Braham Swarup Ji has not let this fact make him arrogant and proud. He is a good judge of human character and understands the inherent qualities of the person. For these noble traits in his character he is respected and worshipped in the society.
