In
Berry Goshala there used
to be an acute shortage of
drinking water. All the ponds
and the water sources would dry
up. At that time there was no
facility of tube wells for the
lack of electricity in the
villages.
It was very difficult to get the cows to the well therefore Brahmchari
Shri Jai Ram Ji decided to
take the cows on the bank of
river Yamuna where they could
graze as well as drink water for
two months all the cows of Berry
Goshala were taken to Jakholi in
Sonepat. Brahmchari Shri Jai Ram
Ji himself would go see the
cows. He used to give salary and
food to the shepherds who looked
after the cattle. He also saw
the butchers taking the cows
secretly into Uttar Pradesh from
Haryana to the slaughter house.
Shri Jai Ram Ji called a meeting of all Rajputs and Banias. It was decided
that they will not allow the
cows to be taken for slaughter.
The police also helped in
preventing this evil practice.
Shri Jai Ram Brahmchari Ji setup
a Goshala in Jakholi for the
protection of cows.
Then the Chief Minister of
Haryana Shri Bhajan Lal
sanctioned a grant for building
barracks for the cows. The
Deputy Commissioner of Sonepat
Shri Kanwar R. P. Singh (I.A.S)
also gave his moral support to
this project and sanctioned 60
Bighas of grass land in the name
of Goshala. A tube well was also
sunk for the benefit of the
cows. The Gram Panchayat of
Jakholi donated 22 acre land for
the Goshala. The villagers of
the adjoining villages
contribute the fodder for the
cows. Shri Brahm Swarup Ji is
the president of the Jakholi
Goshala also. At the moment
there are about 400 cows.
